Denoising Field Recordings documents an early attempt at using denoising-techniques in a creative and compositional manner. Instead of utilising noise-reduction-algorithms for their intended purpose (the restoration of damaged audio signals), these processes are applied to various field recordings of trains, streets, swimminghalls and public transport. Due to the fact that these recordings consist entirely of noises this operation transforms the originals into an uncanny hybrid of newly introduced processing artefacts, occasional silence and sporadically audible traces of the original field recordings. What kind of sound-aesthetics can emerge while denoising field recordings?
Denoising Field Recordings is released as a limited edition of 250 see-through 12″ vinyl with an intruiging white-on-white cover designed by Hans Renzler. The digital version is available exlusively at Zero”. Order at wald [at] wald-entertainment.com.

Misel Quitno’s record »Sleep Over Remixes Vol.1« is out now! Ritornell’s Richard took the freedom to remix »A Fancy Friendship« on his own, but invited a bunch of musicians to rip the tune out of its original studio-murk and transplanted the tubas into his own airy, somewhat jazzy version of an imaginary film score. Richard claims that the drums on this remix aren’t actually drums, but swine-flus, made of tropical wood.

Boomkat recommends: “Another product of the fertile RBMA, Some Freak joins fellow alumni Andreya Triana & Ritornell on the spiritual jazz-soul composition ‘The Light’ backed with ace mixes from some of Austria’s finest; Dorian Concept, Patrick Pulsinger and Orakel. Their original is a lush and delicate blend of jazz flutes, soul-soaked vox from Mr. Scruff collaborator Triana and electronic enhancements from Some Freak and Ritornell. You already knew it, but Dorian Concept’s mix takes the track to a next level, adding his own bowed cello or something similar for a lustrously deep and reverberant bassline before intricately stripping layers of instrumentation and licking them with his unique techniques. On the flip Pulsinger sees ‘The Light’ as an acid house cut, threading a bouncing 303 line behind effective house patterns while maintaining the jazzed elements of the original, leaving Orakel to make some noise with acracking Broken Beat workout, taking it out on some unlucky drumkit with ace results.”
